The overall purpose of the Fine Arts Department is to serve as a vehicle for creativity and a means of self-expression. We also strive for students to have a deeper appreciation of the arts. The Fine Arts Department's purposes and objectives are to emphasize the uniqueness and creativity of each student and to foster the talent of each student. We nurture self-esteem, develop technical skills, and encourage our students to become independent thinkers.
We teach sequential skills through process. Students learn the process through examples, demonstrations, and verbal and written commands. Students then practice these skills on a final process of tests, quizzes, presentations, performances and exhibitions which demonstrates their level of mastery and how well they follow specific requirements.
Technology in the Fine Arts Department at Bishop Fenwick plays a major role in educating and training students in the use of the most modern tools of art making. In the photography, studio art, and general art classes we use computers and scanners in a variety of ways to create printed images, audio-visual presentations and graphic communications. In photography, students use digital cameras to complete several major projects using professional design software in a new digital media lab. Students also use the Internet as a research tool to explore art history and other topics in the arts.
The Bishop Fenwick Music Department provides a foundation for a lifelong appreciation and enjoyment of music. The goal is to give every student the chance to experience music, regardless of ability levels. An essential part of each music course is learning to use computers and the Internet for the purpose of research as well as communication between students and teachers. In addition, music students actively use available digital technologies such as music writing and sequencing software, MIDI and keyboards.
