The goal of the Mathematics Department is to give each student the prerequisites required to succeed at higher level mathematics. Each student who graduates from Bishop Fenwick High School is required to complete three credits in mathematics. As a department, we encourage all students to complete a fourth year of mathematics. There are four levels of instruction offered allowing the student to be appropriately challenged while learning common content themes across all levels. To this end there is an ongoing assessment of curriculum to map topics throughout each level. The curriculum reflects the desire that each student completing a four-year sequence will have the necessary concepts, content and skills to continue their mathematics education.
Recognizing that students respond and develop in various ways, the Mathematics Department annually evaluates course offerings, course content, textbooks, and technology. Technology is incorporated as a tool of instruction when appropriate to enhance student learning.
Business and technology courses are offered through the Mathematics Department. All students are required to take a basic computer applications course. The remaining courses in the department are electives designed to familiarize students with career choices and real life situations in business.
