How do I apply for admissions to Bishop Fenwick High School?
Bishop Fenwick High School is a Catholic, coeducational, college-preparatory high school. Any young man or woman making satisfactory progress towards completion of the eighth grade may apply for admission to Bishop Fenwick High School.
What is the application process for an incoming 8th grader?
- Incoming students (8th graders) to be considered for admissions must:
Register for and take the Archdiocese of Boston High School Placement Test. The test is offered in November and December. For specific dates and times.Please refer to the events section of the Admissions Page.
- Submit formal application (both parent/guardian) and student which includes a writing sample.
- Request from one’s present school a formal transcript that requires final grades 7th grade – 1st marking term 8th grade – results of standardized tests- and BFHS transcript/ recommendation form. Individual teacher recommendations, while helpful are not required. Individual student interviews are not required.
When will decisions regarding the acceptance of the Class of 2015 be made?
All decisions regarding freshmen applications submitted by December 20,2010 will be mailed on January 31, 2011.
Does Bishop Fenwick accept transfer students?
Bishop Fenwick High School will accept a limited of qualified transfer students each decisions. For specific information on transfer it is recommended that interested parties contact the Admissions Office at 978-587-8360. Interviews of the transfer students and
arents/guardians are required. Transfer decisions are made on a rolling basis.
Can potential students visit Bishop Fenwick High School?
There are many opportunities for interested students and their families to visit Bishop Fenwick.
- Open Houses provide the opportunity to tour the campus either formally or informally, meet members of the School Community and to visit classrooms and departments. Open Houses are held in the fall.
- Admissions information sessions provide an opportunity to meet with members of the Admissions Office for questions and guidance in the admissions process.
- The Fridays at Fenwick give 8th grade students and transfers who have made application a chance to tour during school days, and meet with student and staff.
- Student and family tours are provided during the school day as an additional opportunity to see Bishop Fenwick High school during school hours.
What type of academic program is offered at Bishop Fenwick?
Nine academic departments comprise the core of the college preparatory curriculum. Honors level programs are offered in all four years of study while Advanced Placement Courses(as recognized by The College Board) are offered in sophomore, junior, and senior years. Course levels offered are College Preparatory, Accelerated, Honors, and Advanced Placement. Bishop Fenwick High School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

What does the typical academic schedule look like for a freshman student?
During freshman year, students take the following classes:
- Religious Studies I
- English I
- Science – Biology
- Foreign Language – either Spanish or French
- Mathematics – either Algebra or Geometry
- Health and Wellness I
AND EITHER
- European Culture and a Fine Arts Elective
- OR a Fine Arts Major Course(Drawing and Painting, Chorus, or Band).
How is course placement determined for freshman?
Course placement is the results of many factors including: Grade in 7th and 8th grade, results from the High School Placement Test and previous standardized testing results, student writing samples(including graded essay), 8th grade teacher recommendations in English, Math, Foreign Language, and results from BFHS Algebra Placement Test(given to 8th grade students who have completed a full year 8th grade algebra program).
What is the cost of tuition and is financial aid available?
Tuition is set by the Board of Trustees in January. Financial Aid information is available once the rate is set. Financial Aid is intended for students who have met the entrance requirements and are in need of assistance. Application for Financial is made during January and February by completing a Students Aid Form and submitting it to F.A.C.T.’s tuition service. The forms are available through the Business and Admissions Office and are also available on-line. For specific information contact the School Business Office.
Are scholarships available?
Scholarships are available for the freshman class. Decisions regarding qualification and availability are made by the Admissions and Business Offices. Students do not have to apply for scholarship consideration.
Student Life
What is the School Day at Bishop Fenwick?
The school day runs from 7:57 am to 2:15 pm. Students are required to be in their assigned homeroom by the 7:57 am bell. Movement to the first class of the day begins at the 8:10 am bell. The first class begins at 8:15.
Classes are 60 minutes in length with a 5 minute passing. The last class ends at 2:15. Extra help takes place after school and extra curricula activities begin at 2:50.
A student will have as part of their daily schedule 2 classes before the lunch period, 2 classes after the lunch period and a 30 minute lunch with a 65 minute class during the lunch block daily.
Bishop Fenwick operates on a seven day rotating schedule. A student has 5 classes a day, with each class 60 minutes in length. There are 3 lunch periods and a lunch period lasts 30 minutes.
Is there a dress code at Bishop Fenwick?
All students are required to wear a Bishop Fenwick polo shirt (either short or long sleeved) and traditional chino style pants and appropriate footwear. From October to May students may wear school approved fleece.
What type of after school activities are offered?
A full program of activities and athletics are offered for student participation.
Go to the Students Activities and/or Athletics Sections of the web site for specific information and offerings. Students participating in any level of athletics are required to present proof of a valid medical examination prior to participation.
What other after school programs exist?
The School Library remains open most days after school for student use and a supervised program in the Student Dining Room also takes place.
